My name is Dr Elis Dafydd, I am a lecturer at the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies.

First of all, Bangor is located in an area where Welsh is living and a thriving language, and there's no better place to immerse yourself in the language and in the culture.

Meet your lecturers

Professor Angharad Price
I love reading and studying literature, as well as creative writing.
Creative writing is a process of discovery and seeing things in a new light, so the work is never boring or monotonous. It's always an adventure.
Being in the company of the students teaching and talking and creating.
There is a great community of students of all kinds in Bangor and the Welsh language is a central part of the entire life of the University and the surrounding area.
I believe that everyone has the ability to write creatively. It's about going for it. It is a process of discovery.

Professor Jerry Hunter
As an American, discovering American Welsh literature was an eye opener for me: it was amazing to learn that so much Welsh literature was published in the United States during the 19th century.
Yes. People - especially outside Wales - sometimes think that the Welsh language is a 'small' field as the Welsh language is a minority language. It must explained by stating that you could spend your life studying one century in the history of Welsh literature as there is so much interesting literature in the language!
挓乾勛圖ing literature and analysing language provides you with great skills that are useful in many everyday contexts - when solving problems or when thinking creatively about anything.
Take full advantage of all the resources - academic and social - available at the University. You need to make sure you know about all the things that are available to you here in Bangor.
