Abigail Shannon Chua Psychology - Malaysia
Why Bangor?
I saw how pretty Îá°®³Ô¹Ï and the area looked on the web and Main Arts looked like Hogwarts from Harry Potter. I thought it would be amazing if I could study here.Â
What is the most difficult thing about being an International student
How hard it can be moving away from home, feeling homesick and having to adapt to a different culture, climate (well home is hot all year round so being in Wales where there can be 4 seasons in a day can be a bit challenging at times) and just having to juggle university with all of these factors in mind can be very challenging.
The Course
The Psychology course is one of the best in the country. The lecturers are so passionate about the subject that it is inspiring. Staff are friendly and helpful and they are always willing to help you.
Clubs and Societies
I enjoy just walking around Bangor with friends and I also happen to be a volunteer in the Walk&Talk Volunteering project where people come together to just have a chat and see the sights of Bangor with a different location to go to every week.
Bangor and the Area
Everything is within walking distance and I don’t need to have a car, which is so much easier. The living cost is cheap and the local people are friendly. The surroundings are amazing if you’re a fan of outdoor activities, and there is the amazing Snowdon to climb! If you want to go for a day out to a city, just hop on a train and you’ll get there.
Support from the University
The university has been very supportive and understanding of my situation as an international student, providing a range of services that I could use to help improve my skills in studying abroad such as Writing Skills and Counselling if I needed any help with life.
Advice for new International students?
To students who are planning to come here, I would advise to bring a lot of waterproofs, as it’s normally wet here.
The future
I’m planning to apply for a Masters in Counselling in Îá°®³Ô¹Ï and hopefully become a Counselling Psychologist.
If you’re planning to study Psychology, come to Bangor! It’s the best for studying the human mind and not to mention you get to hold an actual human brain in your own hands in your second semester of your first year!
