What to expect as a Nursing student
Our Nursing courses are taught by world-class academics, passionate about their subjects. You will learn from experts at the forefront of their fields, and you will have access to a wealth of resources to support your studies.
Îá°®³Ô¹Ï's Nursing programme features newly refurbished clinical skills facilities, including a two-bed high-fidelity suite, a seven-bay ward, and additional flexible clinical skills areas, providing a simulated environment that thoroughly prepares students for clinical placements.
We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all of our students. We have a dedicated team of staff who are here to help you with your studies and to make sure that you have a positive experience at Bangor.

Massive congratulations to you all for receiving an offer to come and study with us in September.
You can see that I'm actually standing in one of our clinical skills suites, which is a facility that has been invested in to aid your learning and to help you succeed here at Bangor.
You have enrolled on a professional course, and we are going to get you to that professional standard, backed by a team of academics who have strong clinical experience.
We have facilities here at Bangor as well as in Wrexham. They are both equally well supported by those academics.
Meet your Lecturers
Dr Elizabeth Mason
Adult Nursing
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I currently serve as Deputy Head of the School of Health Sciences. My expertise includes healthcare law, ethics, end-of-life care, and reflective practice. I’m also a Nursing and Midwifery Council registrant reviewer, with research interests in professional standards and a strong background in curriculum development and quality assurance.
Dr Ruth Wyn Williams
Learning Disability Nursing
As a learning disability nurse and lecturer, I teach across healthcare programmes, driven by a passion for social justice, human rights, and equitable health outcomes. With experience in community, in-patient, and residential settings across Wales, Australia, and Argentina, I also volunteer in Ukraine. My work focuses on quality improvement, public health, and policy development, which I bring into the classroom.
Dr Sian Davies
Adult Nursing
As Director of Teaching and Learning and Programme Lead for Adult Nursing, I bring extensive experience in coronary care and a Doctorate in Healthcare. I support students across all areas of the curriculum and during clinical placements at Ysbyty Gwynedd. I love Bangor’s friendly environment and enjoy contributing to interprofessional learning. Outside of work, I explore Anglesey’s stunning coastlines.
Mrs Eluned Williams
Children's NursingÌý
I am a Child field lecturer supporting students across the whole health curriculum. I support students who wish to undertake part of their studies through the medium of welsh. My background includes adult nursing before moving into child filed where I have worked within the hospital and community setting.
Mr Barry Starmer
Mental Health Nursing
I qualified as a mental health nurse in 1992 and have worked in various areas, including acute care, community, rehabilitation, and challenging behavior. Before joining the University in 2020, I spent over 20 years in substance misuse services, managing two teams for ten years and serving as senior nurse for adult safeguarding. I hold a BSc in Mental Health, two postgrad diplomas, and plan to start my taught doctorate next year.
Do I need to speak Welsh at Bangor?
Welsh is very much a language for everyone at Bangor. From fluent speakers to those who are learning a few words and phrases or just enjoying hearing and seeing a different language to their own, we all benefit from this rich linguistic and cultural community.

Croeso! Welcome to Bangor!
Here at Bangor the Welsh and the English language are both used, and we're extremely proud to be one of the world's most bilingual universities. Of course, there's no expectation for you to be able to speak or understand Welsh, but here is and idea of what you can expect while living in a bilingual environment.
Bangor is located in Gwynedd, which is the county with the highest percentage of Welsh speakers in Wales. And Îá°®³Ô¹Ï is proud to use and support the language. In the university itself, around 1 in 5 of our students speak Welsh, and many staff members are able to help and support them in both languages.
Around the city, you'll notice that Welsh and English are both used naturally as day to day languages. And you may notice that many of your peers choose to study and complete assignments through the medium of Welsh.
If you're interested in learning Welsh, you can take a module or an online course during your time at university. Or you can pick up a few simple phrases, such as "Shw'mae", "Bore Da"and "Diolch".
Whichever way you choose to live your university life, we hope you'll enjoy being a part of a truly bilingual community. A community that everyone's welcome to be a part of.
